Image to Map Rectification
The process of rectifying an image to a maps coordinate system has its advantage and disadvantages. The advantages after matching ground control points in the mapping system to points in the image is the elimination of errors in the data in a GIS. After the rectification process, cultural features are now assigned with accurate coordinates. The disadvantages in the process occur when the images lacks identifiable features making it difficult to locate a ground control point. Also, user error when placing ground control points can distort the image and make a mess out of the whole process.

Thermal Infrared
Roads-appear lighter due to the materials higher heat capacity
Natural and Man Made Vegetation- the vegetation's heat absorption depends on the moisture content and whether or not the vegetaion has been watered or if rainfall activity was present.
Sidewalks and Patios: Heat capacity and color in the image is similar to Roads.
Storage Sheds in back yards: darker color is indicative of a low heat absorption rate.
Automobiles: Car materials similar to shed except the hot spots over the running/previously running engines.
Bright spots on many of the roof tops- kitchen exhaust vents will appear lighter on roof due to the heat rising out of it.

Projected Aerial Photograph
A common problem with color infrared(CIR) aerial photography would be identification of the features, especially if you are a newbie like me. CIR photography also makes it difficult to interpret the natural color and the depth of the features and objects.

offshore wind mill site
Norton Shores Offshore Wind FarmNorton Shores offfshore wind farm is located approx. 15 miles off the shore. This location receives an avg wind sped of 12 miles/ hr. Noise and shadow flicker will not be of a concern to residents since its 15 miles offshore. This location does not have any major shipping routes. I do not think migratory birds will be a huge issue. The east side of lake michigan does not have major routes when it comes to migratory birds,

Bad Map Critique Mod 1, Pt 2
This is my example of a bad map. It is missing almost every feature a map needs in order for a reader to understand. The map is missing a title, a north arrow, a legend and just plain old sense.
The .25 km bar scale for South Park is odd because the park is nowhere to be found on the map. It seems to me as though the "mapmaker" grabbed a bunch of random information and scattered it around.

Good Map Critique Mod 1, Pt. 2
This map depicts the average unemployment rate by county over the span of a year as the title indicates. The difference in lightness and saturation easily captures the unemployment phenomena throughout the country. I bet this map looks a whole lot different now.
This map also includes a legend defining the unemployment rate from lighter and lower to darker and higher. The data was collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and also notes that the county data is provisional.

Mental Mapping Module 1 Part 1
My top choices for places I would like to work/live in are states that offer a plethora of outdoor activities and natural beauty. Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Utah color coded in red would be my first choice in the Northwestern part of the U.S. On the eastern side of the States, my top choices would be Florida, Maryland,Kentucky, Wisconsin, Illinois and Massachusetts. The orange states are my second choice and the green states are my third choice.
